Untrue Rumor about Ocean Shores and Halloween

Many people believe that trick or treating is ILLEGAL in Ocean Shores, Washington. Indeed, I have never heard or seen anybody trick or treating here. However, checking the municipal code reveals nothing that prohibits trick or treating here. It simply isn't done because the place is semi-rural, with many houses used only as vacation homes. As a result, trick or treating has not caught on with even the homeowners that ARE home on Halloween, nor with kids since there's just not much candy to be had.

Instead, Ocean Shores holds an annual Halloween Party. It's usually hosted by the fire department and held at the convention center. The 2019 event was the 49th annual one. However, I fear there will not be the usual shindig in 2020, due to the Coronavirus. For the first time in memory, Halloween will be cancelled in Ocean Shores. It's happened in other places before. In 1918, Latrobe, Pennsylvania actually made observing Halloween illegal. We will see if the Ocean Shores Mayor issues a similar order (making the rumor true!) or if the event is simply quietly cancelled by its organizers.
